10 Must Do's During a Job Interview

10 Must Do's During a Job Interview

1. Do Your Research Before Your Interview

Research is the most important part research the company and the role you are applying for. This will help you understand the company’s culture and values and give you a better idea of what the interviewer will be looking for. You can plan for your interview strategically. Some key point you must look at is the companies' employee numbers. Check if they have a good number of followers on professional social media platforms LinkedIn. Their social reach out will convey their regular growth in business. As a job seeker, you may wonder what the budget of the company is, but you may know just by observation. Check your roles market salary rate and see if the company is in the stage to offer you the salary, accordingly, you can plan.

2. Dress Appropriately for the Job Interview

On the interview day, it's important to feel confident, you dress up professionally.  How you look will take you through different stages of the interview. Your confidence will mainly reflect on the first impression you make. Recruiters will start with general questions about you. It's best if you know, the name of the interviewer. Instead of using Sir/Ma'am, you utter their name to address any answer. Recruiters' time is precious and has many candidates lined up for an interview. In the given time frame, if you can grab their attention, it will be the best way to get shortlisted. Wear light formals that are comfortable to sit for long hours. Dress for success. Dress in professional clothing that is appropriate for the company culture. This will show that you are taking the interview seriously and that you are respectful of the company’s standards.

3. Eye contact with the Interviewer

While answering questions keep straight eye contact with recruiters. You are representing your career, and that must happen without any hesitation. Hesitation will naturally drag your eyes somewhere. The importance of eye contact is also attention. The recruiter might assume you lack attention. To keep both ways attention, eye contact, and an occasional smile are important. Answer questions with ease. This ease will come with the first point. Interviewers know you from the time you apply, but do you know them well is the question? Basic homework helps you with confidence. This not only grabs the interviewer's attention but increases your chances of selection.

4. Speak clearly and Avoid Using Slang

You've prepared the answers, now you are ready to present. You must communicate well on time to affect the presentation. Jobseekers prepare well but miss out on how to communicate this to the interviewer. While you are in college you must practice how to proceed in a conversation. A conversational tone helps you put your point out clearly. Everything you need from this role will be conveyed well if you know basic conversational skills. Be aware of any slang that might impact you while you speak fast. It's okay if you take some time to answer a question. The interviewer appreciates when applicants think and answer. Every answer is taking you close to the selection.

5. Be sincere and honest in your answers

The answers asked in an interview are crucial. You don't have to hype or hide your achievements. Balance your experience with what is asked of you in the role. Recruiters with showoffs can consider you overqualified for the job. Hence, you be honest and answer interviewers' questions in balance. Use the keywords that are mentioned in the job description. Hopefully, you've kept those keywords crafted in your submitted resume too. Recruiters are well-versed in what they are looking for in the candidate for this particular role. As a result, they will get an alert when you mention those keywords again in your answered question. There is no perfect answer to interview questions. It all varies from one person's experience to another experience. Irrespective of whether you are being a fresher or experienced holder, you all can craft your answers uniquely.

6. Be prepared to answer questions about your qualifications and experience

Candidates when asked about qualifications they start with high school. In an interview for example with a data analyst or a graphic designer, don't end up discussing high school grades. It is best if we mention graduate in case, you haven't studied the skill you are applying for. Proceed with discussing your skill-based experience in the field. Discussing qualifications must not take much of our time. Rather experience elaboration can take a long. Recruiters are interested in your skill & experience to give them that. Freshers can always create demonstrations that they can showcase as their skill-based work. These days it's best if we carry a portfolio of any position we are applying for. Experience or no-experience interviewer wants to see your work around the current role.

7. Ask Questions About the Job and the Company

Now it's your turn to ask questions. These questions you'll have mostly from the homework you mentioned in the first point. Rest of the questions you may have few from the conversation it went into during the interview. You can ask a long-term question, "What is the vision of the company with current growth?" Proceed to ask, "What will be the work timings?", "how long does the break-time last?", and ask them if you can call them after discussing the notice period with your current HR. This is a way of seeking permission to call the recruiter. HR normally explains what they are looking from this role. But to confirm you can ask again about the role expectation the company has. (optional) At the end of the interview, be sure to ask the interviewer questions about the role and the company. This will show that you are interested in the opportunity and that you have done your research.

8. Thank the Interviewer for Their Time

During concluding the interview show gratitude to the interviewer for the time. Observation is key to success. The things you noticed in an interview, you can surely mention to the recruiter. Any learning experiences or feedback given by the interviewer must be well noted. The result lies in the hands of the interviewer but as a job seeker, you have to start enjoying the process. This enjoyment will give you the strength to present well in confidence. Of course, confidence will take you through a practice, that will get clicked with one or the other company. Interviewers can set up scenarios around to check your behavior skills. Stay alert and polite in how you behave from top employees to the office guard.

9. Follow Up with a Cordial Letter or Email

Techfynder while recruiting jobseekers, has observed how follow-up from a jobseeker has revived gone opportunities. Recruiters piled up hundreds of candidates and tend to forget to get back to the candidate on time. The best rule is if you don't get a call, you can call them back saying how you liked the interview process and how you are eligible for their company's specific role. At last, you can ask when they can finally get back to you regarding selection. You can also intimate them about the notice period. The shorter the notice period, it's good to inform you are ready to reduce the serving period days.

10. Positivity Takes Us a Long Way

Be positive and enthusiastic about the role you are applying for. This will show the interviewer that you are excited about the opportunity and that you would be a great fit for the company. Even before the selection, recruiters do analyse your behavior, leadership skills, team player attitude, and sincerity. Your positivity will reflect through your confidence. Communication skills will convey your skills well. What next? wait for their call or follow up after 1 week. Email them, speak to them, but do not forget on following up.
